This is where our thoughts and minds are.

We don’t like Bailey Nune for John Nolan.   We’ve felt this way in varying degrees since she was introduced back in 3x14.  And most of us don’t even like her in general, either.    Nolan and Bailey DO NOT have any couple chemistry whatsoever - no matter how much the actors try to make them look natural together.  Visually they are VERY meh and lackluster together.

Providing an actress with employment is fine and dandy.  But from fans / audiences / consumers / viewers point of view, it’s very unpleasant to watch those two together.  It is so bad.  There is nothing there, even though the actors try.  Nolan is a much more enjoyable character when he’s not sharing scenes with Bailey.  They don’t fit together; both visually and personality wise.  They don’t have that spark or magnetic connection that characters who do have chemistry normally have instantly and organically. 

We absolutely LOVED Grace for Nolan!!!  We also liked him with Jessica.  Even Genny Bradford has more chemistry with Nolan, and they’ve only had 3 scenes together.  There was INSTANT chemistry with Nolan and Grace, and with Nolan and Genny.   Nolan and Bailey have had 50+ episodes together and there is STILL NO couple chemistry. You can’t force chemistry. Characters either have it, or they don’t. And unfortunately, Nolan and Bailey don’t. 

Regarding Bailey as an individual character, it is incredibly REFRESHING when Bailey isn’t in an episode.   When she IS there, we cannot suspend our disbelief and disappear into the rookie universe with her scenes.  It’s VERY HARD to look at her and not just see the actress.  She unfortunately doesn’t get “into” character in any convincing way.   And the actress's artificial nails need to go.  Not only are they very distracting in her scenes, but it’s also not realistic for a firefighter/EMT character to have because it's not looked well upon for them to have in real life.

Many of us fast forward, mute, skip, and even walk away from the tv intentionally, when Bailey and Nolan’s scenes come on because we don’t want to watch them together.  

There is no connection or chemistry between them when they’re on screen together.  And when they act “romantic”, it gets even worse.   They should have only been platonic friends.  It would be easier to swallow and would have been more believable. But scenes with those two are just not captivating, no matter what they do.  They LOOK more like father and daughter, no matter how they are dressed or how they act.  The more they are shown together, it seems like their “connection” gets further apart.  Even if the two actors get along well off-screen, it does not translate on screen in any way, shape, or form.

You can’t build a marriage off what they have.  If they were only friends, like Tim and Angela are, it would be fine.   But inject physical touching and husband/wife status, it just does NOT click.   All their interactions seem forced.  We don’t feel it through the screen.  Even when they try to convey being comfortable together -  there’s just nothing there.   Ever.

There’s just no “spark” between the two actors.

Bailey has been positioned as a superstar.   Even if the writing changed to improve the likeability of the character, the damage has already been done.   Her previous 50 episodes already exist.  

Nolan’s scenes are enjoyable with any of the characters except Bailey.

Nolan was more interesting in season 3 when he was single.  There was no Bailey character weighing his performance down.

For the love (or even the ‘want’ to love) of the character, please either let Nolan be single – he rocked being single! – or give him a better love interest.  Someone who has natural couple chemistry with Nathan on screen.
