A Performance-Based Classification System for Inclusive, Fair Competition

A Performance-Based Classification System for Inclusive, Fair Competition
The Issue
Modern sports face ongoing debates over how to best balance fairness in competition with the inclusion of all athletes, including those who are transgender. The current gender-based divisions have led to challenges regarding biological advantages, especially when comparing athletes who have undergone different stages of physiological development. This proposal outlines a performance-based classification system—similar to weight classes in combat sports—that uses objective metrics (e.g., weight, muscle mass, and performance benchmarks) to determine competition categories. The goal is to offer an equitable system for all athletes while avoiding the pitfalls of segregating any group solely based on identity. Help me, Tyson Lee, get this idea out in the world, this system could immensely impact sporting leagues by including more and different groups of people into regular sporting leagues while keeping the competitive fairness.
