Hey there!
Ever noticed those furry little shadows slinking around our streets? They're not just stray cats, they're our neighbors too. They deserve a chance at a good life, just like the rest of us. Let's come together and show these kitties some love!
An animal’s welfare is extremely important, especially our strays. The stray population has grown to be a concern that plagues the country. The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) reported that in 2019, there were approximately 12 million stray cats and dogs, many of which were former pets or had reproduced on the streets due to inadequate shelter (Daily Tribune, 2023). Furthermore, numerous city pounds report insufficiencies in resources and treatment, unable to maintain their captured animals’ care, despite the disconcerting rise in the stray population (Philippine News Agency, 2023; Daily Tribune, 2023). The pounds often lack the resources to provide proper care for impounded strays which often leads to neglect, mistreatment, and euthanasia. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) concurs that the population of stray animals in the Philippines has transformed into an alarming plight, as strays struggling to bear the harsh conditions on the streets and numerous impounded animals are euthanized monthly. (Philstar, 2024; Philstar, 2022; Daily Tribune, 2023; Philippine News Agency, 2023).
We’re calling on our city to step up and help these stray kitties. Imagine being hungry, cold, and alone—that’s their reality every single day. With a little effort, we can make a significant difference. Even if you can’t adopt, there are still many ways to help: you can foster, volunteer, or donate to local shelters. Improving the lives of these kitties is a collective effort, and every little bit truly counts! Let’s show the world that our city has a big heart for these little ones. Sign this petition, and together, let’s make a pawsitive change!
