A Park for Dr. Joe

A Park for Dr. Joe
The Issue
Dr. Joseph Leventhal was more than just a physician; he was a pillar of our community.
Please support naming the new park at 2788 Bathurst Street in honour of Dr. Joe to celebrate his extraordinary legacy, ensure his decades of service are remembered for generations, and inspire others to carry on his commitment to community care.
A true Renaissance man, Dr. Joe was a devoted family man, trusted friend, gifted physician, a talented and award-wining artist, WWII veteran, storyteller, and proud centenarian.
Serving his country as a pilot in the RCAF during the Second World War, he was also a navigator on bombers chasing Nazi submarines up the St. Lawrence River.
Dr. Joe went on to become a beloved doctor known for his compassion, unwavering care, and humour. He built a family practice, made house calls, served as Parish Doctor for the local Catholic church, was the attending physician at RCAF base in Downsview, worked at several hospitals, and volunteered at Baycrest. A founding member of the Ontario Family Practice Association, he proudly papered his office of pictures of some of the 3,000 babies he delivered throughout his outstanding career.
“He treated each (patient) with skill, wisdom, and a wonderful sense of humour. Anyone who had the privilege of being attended to by Dr. Joe would attest that he was as good as they get,” write Ruth and Philip Ladovsky.
Beyond his professional contributions, Dr Joe was actively involved in community life, always working to make the neighborhood more inclusive, supportive, and connected.
The proposal has already begun to receive strong support, but we need your help to make it a reality. “He was beloved by many, and this tribute would be most appropriate for an individual who served the people in so many ways,” writes Paul Godfrey.
Please join us in honouring a truly exceptional man by signing this petition to name the new park after Dr. Joe – and help keep his spirit alive in our community forever.
**NOTE: This initiative is not a fundraiser - donations are NOT being requested for the park. We only need your signature of support. Donations are requested by Change.org - not us - to fund their free platform, which is how we are able to communicate with community.
