The Issue

Living in Bourbonnais, we recognize we have certain rights and responsibilities tied to residential sustainability. As we guide our future generations, it becomes increasingly apparent how vital it is to retain the knowledge and hands-on education that comes with tasks like chicken keeping. Our plea is simple: Allow the keeping of chickens in our backyards. Understand, this is not just for our personal enrichment. Backyard chicken keeping offers a range of benefits to our beloved village.

It serves as a cornerstone for sustainability, community growth, education, and health. As per data from the American Egg Board, a single chicken can lay up to 276 eggs per year, providing a fresh and reliable food source for many families. Additionally, chickens can help manage garden pests, reducing our reliance on harmful pesticides and fostering an organic, healthy environment.

Let's not overlook the educational opportunities for our children. They get to learn about responsibility, life cycles, the food chain, and more importantly, about healthy, sustainable living in a hands-on, practical manner.

By legalizing backyard chicken keeping, we'll be investing in the Bourbonnais community's growth and strengthening its commitment to sustainability.

Let's not let this opportunity pass us by. Stand up and champion the cause for a greener, healthier Bourbonnais. Sign this petition and make a difference. Let our voices urge the village authorities to do their part in preserving this incredible part of our rural lifestyle - because, in Bourbonnais, our backyards are more than just open spaces. They are our heritage, our sources of sustenance, and our responsibility to maintain.
