A Freedman Woman President for Howard University

The Issue

Howard University, in the near decade tenure of President Wayne A.I. Frederick has systematically removed, expelled, disenfranchised and discriminated against Black students who descend from American Slavery. Under President Frederick's  leadership with the complicity of the Board of Trustees the University officers have moved the institution into a model of corporate greed  and profitability first. The University has violated the human rights and civil rights of its constituents with no true accountability.

Demand that Howard University name a Freedman/ Foundational Black American  woman president before Frederick's retirement to ensure that community members benefit from the impact of a justice oriented, inclusion focused, equity driven, and success minded University leader.

Selecting a 18th University president with the proper legacy connection to the Black American experience will provide an unprecedented opportunity for Howard University to restore constituent representation on the Board of Trustees, restore a students first institutional model and improve morale amongst stakeholders.

Allowing the incumbent officers to determine the succession of the present unkind Strong Man will only lead to further and greater suffering, anxiety and pain in our community.

Since 1867 Howard University has seldom chosen a president using truly democratic functions. This must change in 2023-2024. Allowing the Board of Trustees appointed search committee to make another seedy internal decision about the future of University leadership will not allow us the opportunity to experience the best and highest ideals of this institution.
