A Father-to-Be Lost His Life Savings in a Scam, HSBC Failed to Act. Help Me Demand Justice

A Father-to-Be Lost His Life Savings in a Scam, HSBC Failed to Act. Help Me Demand Justice
The Issue
My name is Habeeb Ahamed Ajwad, and this is the most painful message I’ve ever had to write.
On 9 March 2025, I was scammed out of HKD 408,000 — my entire life savings. Money meant for my pregnant wife’s medical care, our unborn child’s future, and to keep our family afloat. Within minutes of realising I was deceived, I ran to HSBC and the Hong Kong Police. I thought they would protect me.
I was wrong.
💥 Here’s what HSBC did:
Allowed multiple suspicious, large-sum transactions resembling textbook scam patterns without raising a single alarm.
Refused to flag or halt these transactions, despite the real-time fraud detection systems they boast about in public campaigns.
When I reported it within minutes of the last transfer, they acted like it wasn’t their problem.
Took no urgent action to trace, freeze or retrieve my funds while every minute mattered.
Issued freeze notices to only two of the four banks involved, completely ignoring Standard Chartered Bank, where a huge portion of the stolen funds were sent.
I personally hand-delivered letters to every recipient bank pleading for a freeze. Standard Chartered confirmed no request came from HSBC or the police.
Even when regulators granted new tracing powers to banks and police to chase scam funds faster, HSBC ignored it.
And when they finally replied, they coldly blamed me, stating “authorised transaction — nothing we can do.”
HSBC didn’t just fail me — they actively neglected their duty of care.
They ignored anti-fraud protocols. They disregarded the HKMA’s Code of Banking Practice and Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) guidelines. They let a father’s future burn while hiding behind bureaucracy.
This isn’t an accident.
It’s systemic negligence.
I wasn’t alone. HSBC has a trail of similar complaints, yet no accountability.
They market themselves as a protector of customers while quietly abandoning victims like me.
📝 What I’m Asking For:
This isn’t about money anymore — it’s about justice. I demand:
A public investigation into HSBC’s gross mishandling of scam recovery processes.
Full disclosure of their internal failure reports, if any exist, on scam fund recovery protocols.
Mandatory, time-bound fund tracing obligations enforced by law.
Fair compensation for victims abandoned due to HSBC’s indifference and malpractice.
Official reprimand of every executive responsible for this institutional negligence.
💔 Why This Matters to Everyone in Hong Kong (and beyond):
If HSBC can do this to me, they can do this to anyone.
Your grandmother. Your child. Your colleague.
If a scam happens today, and you act immediately — don’t expect your bank to help. They’ll hand you an excuse, while scammers walk away with your savings.
It’s time to tell banks:
We will not tolerate financial institutions who profit from our trust and fail us when it matters.
I’m not giving up — not for my wife, not for my unborn child, and not for the people of Hong Kong.
Please stand with me.
Sign this petition. Share it. Make noise.
Because one day, it might be you begging them to trace your stolen money.
And you’ll pray someone fought this fight before you had to.
