Over the past several months, we have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, and we’re proud to share that Robert’s clemency application has now been finalized and officially submitted to Governor Mike DeWine’s office.
This submission marks a major milestone in our ongoing effort to bring justice, healing, and hope—not only for Robert, but for everyone impacted by this decades-old case.
The application includes a powerful collection of letters and documents reflecting the extraordinary support Robert has received. Among the highlights:
✍️ A formal letter of support from the very judge who sentenced Robert, advocating for his early release based on the changes in Ohio’s self-defense laws.
📜 A compelling letter from an ex-Franklin County prosecutor—someone who worked in the office during Robert’s original trial—speaking out in support of clemency as he believes the sentence was highly unusual.
👥 Endorsements from numerous ODRC (Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction) staff and administrators who have known Robert throughout his incarceration.
🧑⚖️ Statements from legal professionals, community leaders, friends, and family who have witnessed Robert’s remarkable growth and contributions behind bars.
🔍 Sworn affidavits and testimony from previously unheard witnesses, including individuals whose critical statements were suppressed during trial and never presented to the jury nor judge.
This application is not only a legal document—it is a testament to the human capacity for change, redemption, and resilience.
We are now entering a period of waiting, but we remain hopeful. Your continued support matters more than ever. Please help us keep up the momentum by sharing Robert’s story and this petition. Every signature is a reminder to decision-makers that people are watching—and that Robert is not forgotten.
With deep gratitude,
The Ruark family.
