In a time when the European Union faces many challenges, particularly following the war in Ukraine, it is more important than ever to show a sign of unity and solidarity.

While Europe Day on May 9th commemorates the Schuman Declaration and the founding of the EU, its significance for the people of Europe is often limited.

Therefore, we propose the introduction of a new EU-wide holiday that actively promotes these values and brings the people of Europe together.

Demand:

We call upon the European Commission and the European Council to establish a new EU-wide holiday dedicated to the values of unity, peace, and solidarity.

Justification:

Such a holiday would be a strong symbol of a shared European identity, especially in the face of recent adversity.
It would bring people together in all parts of Europe, giving them the opportunity to celebrate their common culture, history, and unwavering support for peace.
The holiday could also be used to promote the values of democracy, tolerance, and the rule of law, which are fundamental to a united Europe.
In a time of growing division and populism, a dedicated holiday would be an important sign of hope, cohesion, and unwavering support for Ukraine.
Possible Design of the Holiday:

The day could be celebrated on May 9th, the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration.
Joint events and celebrations could be organized in all EU member states, highlighting themes of peace, unity, and European solidarity.
The day could also be used to educate people about the history and achievements of the European Union, emphasizing its role in fostering peace and cooperation on the continent.
