The Issue

I’m a concerned parent and community member asking the City of Murrieta to reconsider the No Stopping, Standing, or Parking restrictions during school drop-off and pickup hours in the neighborhoods surrounding Thompson Middle School and Murrieta Valley High School. Specifically Hayes Avenue, Dusty Trail, Chisholm Trail, and Oregon Trail.

I want to be clear, we all care about public safety. We want our children to get to and from school safely and we want our neighborhoods to be safe.

But these signs are not solving the problem, they are creating a larger one.

These are public city streets, not private property. Families are simply trying to get their children to school in the morning and safely pick them up in the afternoon. With crowded schools, limited parking, vehicle traffic, hundreds of families are arriving at the same time to drop off or pick up their children. By completely eliminating stopping, standing, and parking on surrounding streets, parents are placed in a stressful situation  to deliver their children to school in a timely, safe manner while avoiding police resources looking to ticket those parents.

I believe our police officers have far more important public-safety issues that deserve their time and attention.

These neighborhoods and schools are part of the same community. We should be working together—not putting families and residents against one another.

These are our neighborhoods.

These are our public streets.

These are our children.

We need real solutions—not more tickets.

A City Hall Meeting is scheduled for Tomorrow Tuesday August 18 at 4pm.
