A Call to the Oxford Union to Cancel Speaking Event with Hamdullah Mohib
Why this petition matters

We, the undersigned community of concerned students, scholars, academics, and activists express our deepest concern over the invitation of former Afghan National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib to speak in the Oxford Union on 11th May 2022.
Mohib alongside other top Afghan officials, including former President Ashraf Ghani, disgracefully fled Afghanistan and paved the way for an internationally recognized and notorious group of terrorists to return to power. The court of public opinion in Afghanistan has condemned him.
Mohib and his cohorts left Afghanistan in ruin with millions facing oppression, starvation, and destitution. They failed the people of Afghanistan and are responsible for the fall of the government. He must formally apologize to the people of Afghanistan, but instead, continues to parade around events like this to wash his hands of responsibility.
On principle alone Hamdullah Mohib is a national traitor and not fit to represent Afghanistan in a platform like the Oxford Union, especially when an Afghan scholar is not present to respond.
Newly arrived refugees in the city of Oxford, as well as students, residents, and educators of Afghan descent, are severely traumatized and do not feel safe with Mohib being present.
We demand that the Oxford Union respect and honour the wishes of a nation and people in suffering and misery to not indulge Mohib, the perpetrator, with a presentation in Oxford. During this very dark and difficult historical period for Afghanistan, we appeal to you to cancel this event.
