The names on this petition represent the citizens of Ohio who would like to see our state return to the clean energy standards it once successfully practiced.

Dear Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted,

We ask you to intervene on our behalf and demand that OH HB 120 be released from committee and be put up for a vote by June 20, 2024, in honor of National Clean Air Day. 

Ohioans need to be released from the on-going effects of this scandal-ridden bill which has cost us in terms of finances, clean air, human health, and human life.

OH HB 6 should be FULLY repealed because…

• Ohioans have already subsidized two dirty unprofitable 1950s era coal-burning power for too long. We have paid almost a quarter of a billion dollars ($245 million) to date and we should not have to support two unprofitable and pollution-spewing facilities.
• We are paying higher utility bills because HB 6 eliminated the efficiency requirements on the part of public utilities.
• We are paying with our health. Coal-burning power plants produce an abundance of PM 2.5 (fine particulate matter), the most dangerous type of pollution.
• We are paying with our lives. A recent (2021) Harvard study shows that Ohio ranks second in the nation for per capita in premature deaths due to air pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels.
• We are paying economic opportunity costs by not investing more heavily in clean renewable energy which is incentivized by the 2022 IRA. We are leaving money on the table! According to the Inflation Reduction Act signed by President Biden, communities who invest in renewable energy will receive tax incentives. 

OH HB 6 has been called the biggest corruption scandal in Ohio history. $60 million worth of bribes were spent to pass this bill that has done nothing but provide financial bailouts to failing nuclear and coal power plants and undercut the renewable energy mandates that have been set in place since 2008.

Governor DeWine -- you have stated that you care strongly about the health of infants and children … the population most vulnerable to fine particulate matter.  

Lieutenant Governor Husted -- you have stated that you favor a full repeal of HB 6.

Ohioans deserve healthy air to breathe and economic opportunities from clear renewable energy.

We ask you to be true leaders of Ohioans and insist that the Speaker of the House, Jason Stephens, release HB 120 from the Rules and Reference Committee and allow it to be put up for a vote. With the full repeal of HB 6, Ohio can once again become a leader in the growing economy of clean energy.
