A Call for Safety and Answers: Install CCTV at the Goodna Boat Ramp
The issue
We, the family of Patrick Habib Achire, are calling on Ipswich City Council to urgently install CCTV video recording cameras at the Goodna Boat Ramp and surrounding Brisbane River access points.
Our family recently suffered the unimaginable loss of Patrick. Without CCTV footage, we have been left with many unanswered questions. The absence of surveillance has denied us the clarity and closure that any grieving family deserves.
Tragically, Patrick’s death is not the first incident to occur in this area. Over the years, several people have lost their lives near this same stretch of the river. These incidents highlight a long-standing safety issue that cannot be ignored.
Why we are asking for CCTV:
• Rivers and creeks are the leading locations for drowning deaths in Australia, making up one-third of national fatalities (Royal Life Saving Australia).
• Queensland continues to record the highest number of drowning deaths in the country.
• CCTV in public, isolated areas has been shown to reduce crime by up to 60% and provide crucial assistance to police and emergency services.
• The Goodna Boat Ramp is dimly lit, isolated, and lacks any form of surveillance—making it a high-risk area for both accidents and criminal activity.
We are asking for CCTV not only for Patrick, but to protect every family who uses the Goodna Boat Ramp now and in the future. If cameras had been installed earlier, families like ours might have been spared the pain of uncertainty.
By signing this petition, you are helping us advocate for a safer community, preventing future tragedies, and supporting families who deserve answers when the unimaginable happens.
We thank you for standing with us.

💙 A Tribute to Patrick ✨
Patrick was one of a kind, who touched every single life around him.
A deeply loved son, brother, uncle, father, and friend. He was known for his kindness, loyalty, and endless humour.
He always showed up for the people he loved.
He had a warm and infectious personality—always bringing sunshine into every room he entered.
His passing has left an enormous hole in our lives and in the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
At only 35 years old, Patrick had so much life left to live. Losing him so suddenly—without answers, without clarity, this has changed our family forever. His absence is felt every single day.
💙We honour Patrick by fighting for change that can protect others.
