A Call for Better Public Transport Access and Stronger Traffic Enforcement in Mandaue City

A Call for Better Public Transport Access and Stronger Traffic Enforcement in Mandaue City
The Issue
As a student residing in Mandaue City, Cebu, the struggle to get to school on time is frustratingly real. My siblings and I rise early every morning, only to face the same challenges on our journey from Mandaue to Talamban. The lack of sufficient public transport and weak traffic enforcement severely hampers our daily schedule, often making us late. This problem is not just ours—it affects countless citizens who rely on these key routes every day.
We frequently find ourselves waiting endlessly for jeepneys or buses, walking long distances, or opting for costly alternatives such as MoveIt and other transport services, which compromise both our safety and financial stability. Public transport in Mandaue City is failing its citizens, and it is time for action.
The absence of reliable, regular, and efficient public transportation on heavily trafficked routes like Mandaue to Talamban makes daily commuting a daunting task for students, workers, and the general public. Moreover, weak traffic enforcement worsens congestion and delays, further exacerbating the plight of commuters.
According to a study by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), traffic congestion costs the Philippines billions annually in lost opportunities and productivity. In cities such as Mandaue, the implementation of efficient public transport systems and stronger traffic enforcement could greatly alleviate these challenges and improve the quality of life for residents.
We, the undersigned, respectfully urge the local government of Mandaue City to take immediate steps to strengthen traffic enforcement and improve public transport services. Suggested actions include:
- Increasing the number and frequency of jeepneys and buses on underserved but heavily used routes, including Mandaue to Talamban.
- Ensuring that all vehicles comply with proper safety and operational standards.
- Deploying additional traffic enforcers in high-congestion areas to improve traffic flow and enhance commuter safety.
By addressing these pressing issues, Mandaue City can foster a sustainable urban environment that supports the needs of its residents and promotes economic growth.
Your support and leadership are crucial in making a meaningful difference in the daily lives of Mandaue’s citizens.
