A tax on palm oil products to help save the rainforests.

I am a 10 year old boy from Northern Ireland.  I am asking the United Kingdom’s parliament  to start a 27percent VAT (Value Added Tax) on palm oil products to help preserve the rainforests across the world.  The way I think this will help preserve the rainforests is a lot of land which has previously been covered by rainforest has been cut down to grow palm oil trees which has resulted in a loss of habitat for animals and in a lot of cases even extinction.  If there is a 27percent VAT on palm oil products this could make them slightly more expensive which could mean less palm oil products being bought which would mean less demand for palm oil which would result in less rainforest being cut down.  

Why do we need the rainforests?

We need rainforests because they take in Carbon dioxide and release oxygen, rainforests produce about 20percent of the world’s oxygen.  Imagine the consequences of losing all that oxygen!  Also a lot of animal species live in rainforests we need to be able to live alongside these animals we can’t just murder all these animals!
