RALLY for PEACE at 2pm today 2/7/22 on the steps of City Hall. Besides civic leaders a few City Council members will be joining the call for action now.
Please take a moment to read the requests for action listed. New Orleans Safe has led the call for action for several months and we are 4000 strong … our voices, our idea to assist the NoPD with more manpower is just one of the components of a fully realized plan created by citizens. Today New Orleanians are requesting immediate action.
This plan … is peace for … All victims of violent crime, the men and women at work who serve our community be it police, firefighters or citizens moving about our city at work or pleasure, peace for our children, peace to go about our daily lives … this peace means safety, strong and safe neighborhoods and a prosperous New Orleans for all …
NOPD with support of Federal Marshalls have the experience and knowledge to bring justice for crime victims . The arrests over the last 24 hours is solid proof. … but with a 500 NOPD officer shortage, citizens are walking targets … citizens suffer unacceptable call response times for services our NopD is tasked to perform … the La National Guard can assist NopD with patrols, call - response and other agreed tasks … in Nov. 2021, Superintendent Ferguson made City Council and all of NOLA publicly aware that NOPD had a manpower crisis … 41 more officers left the force in January 2022 with only 17 recruits graduated. Obviously, the hole is getting deeper. That’s has to stop today.
More officers and more presence does make New Orleans safer … and to clarify no one is advocating increasing the 1600 officer mandate. We are advocating filling the 500+ officer shortage … NOW. And, New Orleans Safe continues to advocate filling the officer shortage with La National Guard Men and Women as we continue to advocate for Safety for ALL.
New Orleans Safe … a first step to getting our beautiful, historic city back in order. With respect, we ask the Mayor to request assistance from the Louisiana Governor with immediacy.
