Truckers Rights

Truckers Rights
The Issue
Changing the mandatory off time hours from 10hrs to 8hrs.
This small change will not only save TRUCKERS lives but it will ensure trucker safety and allow for more ontime deliveries of American products nationwide.
Nationwide we see Truckers stranded on the side of the road or having to put themselves in dangerous areas in order to comply with new D.O.T. draconian rules and regulations.
These harsh and unforgiving rules don't allow a hard working trucker, trying to deliver goods to the American people, movement for 10 whole hours! No human needs 10hours of sleep a day, especially in these trying times when America needs it's Truckers moving in order to keep the country going.
Often times we truckers get stranded in places that are not only unsafe but also illegal! Putting our lives and our license at risk in order to comply with these harsh rules.
As a driver with over 20 years of experience under my belt I completely understand the necessary mandatory 'off time' that ensures drivers are not taken advantage of by heartless companies. But to swing from one end of the pendulum to the other is equally dangerous.
I know this because I'm writing this petition from an on ramp that I was forced to pull over onto. Shutting my truck down for 10hrs is overkill and will certainly have DOT issuing me a ticket for being illegally parked. It will also put my life in danger as I am forced to stay here for 10hrs.
I have had the privilege of travelling our great country many times over and have noticed this disturbing trend of truckers stuck on the side of the road. Even meticulous planning can't prepare Professional Drivers for the unexpected load time or traffic or any other obstacles we face as drivers, causing your route to change at a moment's notice.
Please sign this petition so that the time waiting to move my truck from a potentially hazardous area or situation can be minimized.
Ask the D.O.T. to change our mandatory off time from 10 hours to 8 hours.
