35% Isn’t Enough for Westmont Families
The Issue
I am a resident of Westmont, a charming community with potential for growth and development. However, unlike our neighboring towns, we are restricted by outdated lot coverage percentages that fail to accommodate modern living preferences and community development. Hinsdale boasts a coverage limit of 55%, Clarendon Hills at 50%, and Downers Grove at 45%. Despite Downer's Grove having inferior schools to Westmont, its property values are higher, making it a more desirable location.
We are paying taxes based on the value assessments taken from our neighboring towns, yet we are not afforded the same benefits. Our homes and communities are stifled by these restrictive ordinances, preventing us from adding amenities such as pools and patios that enhance our living environments. This discrepancy discourages residents from enhancing their properties and deters potential new homeowners from considering Westmont as their place to settle.
In order to ensure our community does not become the undesirable town compared to its neighbors, we urgently need to update our lot coverage percentage. Achieving parity with towns like Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, and Downers Grove is critical for maintaining our property values and our community's appeal.
Changing this regulation will allow residents to make improvements according to their lifestyle needs, enhancing the overall quality of life and competitiveness of Westmont as a desirable place to live. Now is the time to act so we can build a future where Westmont stands proud alongside its thriving neighbors.
I invite you to join me in calling on our local government to revise the lot coverage percentage in alignment with our neighboring communities. Together, we can make Westmont a vibrant, competitive, and desirable community for all. Please sign this petition and share it with others who care about the future of our town.
