Help Keep the HiSET® Exam in Texas

Help Keep the HiSET® Exam in Texas
The Issue
The HiSET® exam will not be available in Texas after August 31, 2021
This will abolish Texans chance to earn their Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (TxCHSE) by taking the HiSET® Exam, which will allow them to have opportunities to return to further education, get financial aid assistance, obtain a living wage job or promotion, and/or enter the military.
There are over 3 million adults in Texas that lack a high school diploma or its equivalency. As the #1 state in the nation with adults that lack a high school diploma it is imperative that our Texans have a choice. The HiSET® Exam is an alternative option for test taskers with significant advantages over its counterpart the GED Test.
With the HiSET® Exam gone - individuals are left with only one option to earn a qualifying credential. Adult learners should have the option to choose which equivalency exam they want to take, creating multiple pathways to earn their TxCHSE credential.
Help us keep the HiSET® Exam in Texas as an available option for adults to earn their high school equivalency.
A Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (TxCHSE) is an alternative credential for adults that did not have an opportunity to finish traditional high school. Upon successful completion of all five portions of the exam, students earn an equivalency certificate that allots them the same benefits as a high school diploma.
