Alien fans have been waiting for a sequel to the franchise every since 1997.  In 2001 James Cameron and Ridley Scott had plans to make an Alien 5 but fox opted to go for an AVP film instead. After the failures that AVP and AVPR it seemed that we would never get a ending to the series that we were all hoping for. Now it seems that our wait is finally over and director Neill Blomkamp is intent on making another installment to the series…Unfortunately he seems intent on ignoring half the franchise to do it.  Retconning is a cheap and lazy way to tell a story and it cheapens the legitimacy of the Alien saga.  Alien 3 and Resurrection are hugely underrated films that are as integral to the canon of the series as the first two.  So many iconic scenes and impressive performances are within those films that to disregard them is doing the series great harm.  We can all agree that latter half of the alien’s saga doesn’t have the universal praise of the first two films but they are still stylish films created by competent directors and have generated their own cult followings. Let’s show our support for the continuity of the Alien saga and let Fox, Neill Blomkamp, and Sigourney Weaver know that Alien 5 should respect continuity and fit into established canon.
