2020 Candidates: Pledge to Renew the Violence Against Women Act in your first 100 days

2020 Candidates: Pledge to Renew the Violence Against Women Act in your first 100 days
The Issue
Nearly a year ago, Congress allowed the Violence Against Women Act to expire. Since then our country has been living without adequate laws to respond to violence against women and protect victims.
Will you call on 2020 presidential candidates to commit to renew the Violence Against Women Act in their first 100 days in office?
As a survivor of domestic abuse and sexual assault, I understand the importance of The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Without it, I would not have known about my right to obtain a protective order against my abusers. VAWA established specialized units for domestic violence cases and 24-hour crisis response services. It implemented changes to make it possible for victims, including myself, to be vindicated through the law.
But for over a year now those protections have lapsed, and I’m worried about victims who are currently trying to escape abusive relationships or heal from abuse.
Our next president will have the chance to fully reinstate and improve the protections victims deserve. Join me in demanding that the Violence Against Women Act be treated with the same urgency as any other policy discussion.
We want to know: do our presidential candidates care about victims enough to get VAWA passed in their first 100 days in office?
