The Issue

Recently I was given the news that my entire transmission would need to be replaced at the Roseville Toyota dealership. I purchased my 2019 Toyota C-HR LE about one year ago in full and immediately took it in to be serviced for its 110k mileage check. I bought the service package to make sure I could consistently get diagnostics and repairs done to my vehicle as needed. I spent about 3k in repairs to have a perfectly operable car and $400 for the service package - my first nice thing I have ever owned and I wanted it to be in the best condition possible! This was in April of 2025. Later, in September 2025, I took my car in a little early on for the 120k service where I was quoted about 3k for repairs to the spark plugs and total skid plate replacement among other normal services needed to be done. Now it is May 2026, and I just recently took my car in to be serviced for the 125k check. The brakes were making a strange noise and I wanted to be on top of the issue. 4 HOURS later and I messaged my technician about my car since my husband and I were stuck at the dealership with our 4 month old baby and needed to pick up our 5 year old from daycare. They were supposed to flush my transmission and check my brakes, but little to my knowledge they cancelled the transmission flush and quoted me over 9k to fully replace my transmission. They didn't even bother ordering the parts as they are severely back-ordered. Absolutely devastated, I dove into this issue online and apparently the transmission is KNOWN to be faulty in the 2018-2022 C-HR models. There are NO RECALLS regarding this, yet endless customers are reporting premature transmission failure in these vehicles. Toyota Canada has already reimbursed their customers and offers a 193km/10 year warranty for the faulty bearing residing in the transmission. This bearing leaves metal shavings in the transmission fluid and completely ruins the transmission overall. Toyota US refuses to address this issue. This morning I spoke with a representative who LIED to me and stated that the transmission in the C-HR in Canada was made differently than the US models. These cars are manufactured in Turkey and Japan by Toyota. I posted this issue in a forum with other C-HR owners and they are being told that not enough customers have made complaints about the transmission to even bother placing a recall on the faulty bearing. This is interesting as the rep. I spoke to notified me that they weren't even aware of the problem at all. I am so disappointed in Toyota and their lack of customer care. This brand is known for its longevity and reliability. I have taken consistent care of my car and to have this issue so suddenly leave me without a car that I spent money and time making sure that it ran to it's full capability - I'm angry. So many are left spending thousands on this issue, left without transportation by a company known all over the world. They are doing nothing to help their consumers. I was told that I am not eligible to trade in my vehicle now. In just one year I have lost my vehicle and 20k in purchases and maintenance.

I hope that this petition can force the company into taking action regarding the K114 CVT Transmission in their 2018-2022 C-HR models. There is an active investigation for a class action lawsuit by Ahdoot & Wolfson, PC to help further this issue as well. I have personally reported this to the NHTSA as a safety concern. I will not let this slide and pay for the blatant ignorance from this corporation. Do better, Toyota.
