20 is plenty! Ruislip Gardens Residential Area

The Issue

Welcome to our online petition for those who haven't had the chance to sign the circulating paper version within Ruislip Gardens Estate. Our goal is to advocate for a reduction in speed within the residential area, starting from the entrance of the estate, encompassing roads branching off Bedford Road and subsequent ones.

20 is plenty! Please SLOW IT DOWN!

Make Ruislip Gardens residential area a 20mph Zone

Our streets, once peaceful pathways for local residents, have unfortunately become danger zones due to reckless driving and speeding. The situation is dire, with small and large vehicles alike contributing to the chaos along key arteries like Bedford Road, Clyfford Road, Trevor Crescent, and Stafford Road. This poses a daily threat to pedestrians and cyclists, including our school children.

Examples of the issues we face include inconsiderate drivers, delivery vehicles racing against tight deadlines, oversized vehicles showing little concern for residential roads, parents rushing to school, delivery scooters, and individuals with a need for speed.

We believe it's time to take action and bring about change for the safety of everyone in our community. That's why we've launched an online petition to request the Hillingdon Council to designate Ruislip Gardens Residential Estate as a 20 mph maximum speed limit zone. We've witnessed success stories in other areas where similar measures have significantly enhanced safety for pedestrians and road users.

"The Highway Code notes that at 20 mph, the typical overall stopping distance is around 40 feet, compared to 75 feet at 30 mph. This highlights the increased reaction time and reduced stopping distance at lower speeds."

By signing this petition, you contribute to a collective plea from our community, emphasising the critical need for change. We believe that a 20 mph speed limit will make our streets safer for everyone, especially during peak hours and school times.

"According to the UK Department for Transport, the probability of a pedestrian being killed in a collision with a car decreases from 20% at 30 mph to 2.5% at 20 mph."

Your signature matters. It adds weight to our appeal and demonstrates our unity as a community striving for safer roads. Please take a moment to sign the petition and share it with your friends, family, and neighbours. Together, we can make a difference.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and commitment to the well-being of our community.

"The Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) conducted studies indicating that communities often show a high level of support for 20 mph speed limits in residential areas, citing improved safety and a better quality of life."
