Reduce income tax for South African taxpayers

Reduce income tax for South African taxpayers
Why this petition matters

2,5 million South Africans pay 84% of all personal income tax! Our Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana, will soon be delivering the 2023 National Budget Speech, on 22 February 2023. South Africa has a large debt to repay and social services to maintain, so the Minister has to decide how to fund this. His options are to:
- Increase personal income tax
- Increase VAT
- Increase corporate tax
- Create a new income source: Tourism.
We support option 4.
The South African tax base is very small, and they are already carrying a big tax burden. They are carrying millions of people on their shoulders. Slogging long hours. Not spending time with their families. Not being able to start a hobby because they are working so much.
Taxes are generated from economic activity. The more activities and the more value they produce the more the total amount of tax that can be collected. Taxes are used to provide public goods and services like schools, roads, dams, railways, electricity, social support, and much more. So we need more quality economic activity to ensure an increase in the amount of taxes collected (We don't need higher tax rates as that reduces economic activity).
The Chartered Institute for Business Accountants (formerly SAIBA) therefore doesn’t think you should pay more in income tax.
If South Africa attracts more tourists, the Government wouldn't have to tax you more. A safe and accessible South Africa can attract millions of tourists that will spend their cash in South Africa buying local products and creating employment.
Make sure to let the Minister of Finance know before 22 February 2023 budget that you can’t pay more tax.
