Justice for Alexis C. Bray: 18-Year-Old Sentenced to 20 Years After Being Victimized Since Age 13
Petition by: Lisa Dendy, Mother of Alexis Bray
Location: Mississippi, USA
My daughter, Alexis C. Bray, was just sentenced to 20 years in adult prison — day for day, no early release — after a childhood of trauma, abuse, and addiction. She was sentenced without her family being notified and without a fair chance to be heard.
This is not justice. This is a system punishing a traumatized child instead of protecting her.
Alexis’ Story:
At 13, Alexis became a victim of child pornography.
At 14–15, she was introduced to fentanyl and meth and became addicted.
At 15–16, she struggled with severe depression and suicidal thoughts, overdosing multiple times.
At 16, she became involved in a crime — while addicted, traumatized, and manipulated by an adult male who is now federally charged with child exploitation.
At 17, she was arrested and jailed in an adult facility.
At 18, Alexis was sentenced to 20 years in prison with no chance of early release. Her family was not notified of the hearing, and the day before sentencing, she disclosed new, potentially exculpatory information to law enforcement without her lawyer present. None of it was considered.
We are calling for:
1. A full independent review of Alexis’ case
2. An investigation into her public defender’s conduct
3. A re-evaluation of her sentencing based on her age, trauma, and the abuse she suffered
4. Legislative change to protect vulnerable youth in the justice system.
Why This Matters:
Alexis was a child when she was victimized, a teen when she was arrested, and now she’s a young adult sentenced to decades in prison for actions committed under the weight of addiction, abuse, and neglect. She never had a fair chance. This sentence does not protect society — it destroys a young life that could have been saved.
We must speak up — for Alexis and for every child like her.
