In the morning hours of August 12 Christon Chaisson was shot and killed while  assisting a woman assaulted by her male companion. This good Samaritan was  walking to his car near the Rosa Parks center in Lafayette, La and according to reports, Christon witnessed and approached a couple in a physical altercation.  After going to the woman's aid, he was shot by another male and died enroute to the hospital.  The shooter Tyler Nicolas Benoit, 20 of Kaplan, LA fled the scene and voluntarily turned himself in at Lafayette Parish Correctional Center several hours later.  He remained at the Parish Jail with a grand jury indictment for Second Degree Murder on October 11, 2017.

But less than 24 hours after the indictment a Louisiana judge reduced his bail from 250,000 to 125,000. Currently he is only is evening house arrest.  He is enjoying his freedom, while we morn the loss of a HERO.

We as a family do not want his heroic act to go unrecognized nor do we want Tyler Benoit to remain out on a reduced bond with potential to flee or harm another person. The case is ongoing and the next pretrial hearing is on May 24, 2018.  Every day that Tyler Benoit is not incarcerated is the harsh reality that our legal system is failing this family.  This is not only a battle for justice, but to give this family peace in knowing that he is out of the community. We have chosen to combat  injustice peacefully with protest and petitions. Please, join us in our journey.
