The Issue

For many families in Edmonton, Morning Glory Daycare was not just a childcare center—it was a second home. It was a place where children laughed, learned, and felt safe. Parents trusted us. Children thrived with us. Educators poured their hearts into creating a nurturing environment.

But everything was taken away.

Fourteen months ago, the government abruptly shut down Morning Glory Daycare. Not because of real safety concerns, but because I—the founder, a mother and an educator—was unfairly labeled as “dangerous.” There was no evidence to support this. Parents and staff testified that our daycare was safe, warm, and caring. Yet their voices were ignored. Reports were twisted, and truth was set aside.

The result? Families shattered.

Children cried for months, refusing to go to unfamiliar daycares, begging to return to Morning Glory—the place they called their second home.
Parents were forced to quit jobs or reduce work hours because they had no trustworthy childcare.
Families faced financial strain and emotional heartbreak, all because of a decision rooted in bias, not fact.
One mother shared how her 9-year-old daughter broke down, refusing school and other daycares, saying: “It’s not Morning Glory. I want to go back to Karen’s daycare.” Another parent described their toddler clinging to them every morning, crying, “I want my daycare back.” These stories are not isolated—they echo across dozens of families who lost stability, security, and trust.

And yet, there is proof that justice is possible. Little Scholars Daycare, faced with a similar unjust closure, fought back and won their appeal. They reopened. Children returned. Families healed.

So why are Morning Glory’s families still suffering?

This is not only about one daycare. It is about a broken system where:

Safe centers are closed without cause.
Parents’ voices are dismissed.
Outdated, discriminatory practices destroy trust.
We are demanding change.

We Call For:

A full and transparent review of the closure of Morning Glory Daycare.
Fair processes that protect safe childcare providers, instead of punishing them.
Respect for parents’ testimonies and families’ voices in all childcare decisions.
Policies that put children’s emotional and educational well-being first.
Every child deserves stability. Every parent deserves to be heard. Every educator deserves fairness.

Morning Glory Daycare gave children love, safety, and joy. For 14 months, those children have been left without the place they called home. We cannot let this injustice continue.

By signing this petition, you are not just standing with Morning Glory—you are standing with children who deserve to feel safe, with parents who deserve trust, and with families who deserve justice.

Together, we can bring back Morning Glory. Together, we can demand a childcare system that is fair, transparent, and centered on children’s best interests.
