10 Demands for Karol Bagh/Old Rajinder Nagar(ORN) Infrastructure Upgrade

The Issue

[for the entire context scroll to the bottom]

Knee-jerk reactions aside, the entire Karol Bagh/Old Rajinder Nagar(ORN) area needs a re-look. Years of neglect and unchecked encroachments ensure that short-term measures will have no bearing.

  1. State-of-the-art electricity infrastructure. Existing power lines are a mess.
  2. State-of-the-art water and drainage system
  3. Basic sanitation and hygiene
-Public toilets and toilets in all major buildings require inspection.
  4. Waste Management
-Guidelines from waste segregation to cleaning are not being followed
  5. Proper roads - all encroachments to be curbed.
  6. Food outlet inspection. FSSAI certification for all food joints, and tiffin services.
  7. Commercial properties
    1. Priority 1 - A thorough inspection of coachings who own buildings.
    2. Priority 2 - Those who operate classrooms with over 100 seating capacity.
    3. Priority 3 - Admission offices, primarily online institutes on rental property(they are not a problem, they need just 1 month's notice and they can move to any other place)
  8. Residential properties - plots have been converted to multistorey buildings posing a security threat.
  9. Guidelines for Paying Guest Facilities/Hostels. Similar to those that exist in Kota.
  10. Getting rid of ambiguous, open-to-interpretation clauses in the MCD building codes.

The above are massive projects individually requiring planning and due diligence.

In the short term, these incidents are bound to repeat. At the very least, we need 1 single helpline number where anyone can report infrastructural issues that will be inspected on time. What's being reported is that the response team took hours to reach the site. This needs to be avoided at all costs.

In this moment of profound sorrow, our grief is overshadowed by an even greater demand for justice. It is often in the world's most vulnerable economies that human lives are tragically undervalued, lost to mismanagement and misconduct. Not in a country poised to become the next superpower

This is not just a tragedy; it is a blatant call for justice and a plea for the respect and value that every life deserves.

We are here not only to mourn but to advocate for change. The authorities are noting down demands just to placate the mob. Join us in this pursuit for justice, for in unity there is strength and in truth, there is freedom.

Education. Justice. Unity.
