The Issue

Congress Government's Caste Search Within Religion.

The Christian community is now suffering from the duality of the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who always talks about social justice, and the caste system that is hidden and intertwined with him.

The Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission has sown the poisonous seeds of caste among religions during the state government's intended "Social and Educational Survey" to conduct a comprehensive survey of all castes in the state, including backward classes, other castes, and scheduled castes/tribes, and through this, the government's recent records have confirmed that it is moving towards a caste search within Christianity, which has shocked the Christian community.

The credit for creating 52 new castes like Kuruba Christians, Brahmin Christians, Vokkaliga Christians, Ediga Christians, Holeya Christians, Jalgar Christians, Madiga Christians, Reddy Christians, Tulu Christians goes to the Congress government of the Honorable Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

According to the statistics of the 2011 census, the population of Christians was 11.44 lakhs at that time. Even though no survey was conducted after that, the growth of the community has been natural. Although it is thought that there has been an average increase of 20 percent, the community has been cheated by not providing the expected level of government benefits.

- Rights of the community:

1) A caste-based survey should be conducted:-
Christianity is very dominant at the global level, there is no caste in this religion.  However, the Congress government in Karnataka has started creating divisions and differences within the entire community under the pretext of recognizing castes within Christianity.
There are many sects in Christianity, Roman Catholic with Latin Rite, Roman Catholic with Syrian Rite (Syro Malabar, Syro Malankara), Church of South India (CSI), Church of North India (CNI), Indian Orthodox Church, Jacobite Church, Marthoma Church, Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, Brethren, Jehovah's Witness, New Life, Assembly of God (AG) and hundreds of Pentecostal churches.
According to the 2015 Kantaraju Commission report, followed by the Jayaprakash Commission, there were 44 castes in the Christian community, which has now increased to 52.  The question is how some castes that were not there before have suddenly infiltrated the community.
The entire community strongly condemns this caste system imposed by the Congress government on Christianity. Moreover, we urge the state government to conduct a survey on the basis of sects.

2) Request for ethnographic study:-
The state government should form a high-level committee to study the ethnographic study of the Christian community and prepare a report on the social, educational and economic conditions of Christians. Earlier, the Sahachar Committee had conducted an ethnographic study of the Muslim community and submitted a report. That report helped improve the condition of the Muslim community.

 3) Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Sikh's, Parsis should be included in Category-2B:-
It has been a great injustice to the Christian community to include Christians in Category-3B along with the dominant communities like Veerashaiva Lingayat, Maratha, Bunt and the minority Jains.
The government has recognized Muslims, Christians, Jains, Sikh's, Buddhists and Parsis as religious minorities in our country. Only Muslims have been provided with 4% reservation under Category 2B.
The 4% provided in Category 2B should be increased to 6% and the remaining minorities like Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Sikkars and Parsis should be included in Category 2B and internal reservation should be provided.

 4) Injustice to Christians in the amount of grants and facilities allocated to minorities: -
Of the grants and facilities already allocated to minorities and according to statistics, 80% of them have been given to the Muslim community, while only 10% has been reserved for the Christian community. The remaining 10% has been reserved for the Jain, Buddhist, Parsi and Sikh communities.
To eliminate this discrimination, a study of the remaining minorities should be conducted and based on its report, social justice should be provided so that no community is unfairly treated.

5) Christians should be appointed in organizations, institutions and corporate boards: -
The government's nominations in the offices related to minorities such as the Minority Commission (KMC), the Minority Development Corporation (KMDC) should be made on a rotational basis. This should help in the vitality of the minority community.

6) Christians should be given special priority in government jobs:-
If you go to any government office in Karnataka (Vidhan Soudha, Vikas Soudha, Police Department, Revenue Department), the number of Christians working there is very rare based on the population. Similarly, it has been found that there are no Christian staff in government offices related to minorities such as the Minorities Commission, Minorities Development Corporation and District Minority Offices. Therefore, appropriate steps should be taken based on the population of Christians and necessary steps should be taken to ensure that Christians get government jobs in the above-mentioned departments.
