Petition update台湾を「台湾」としてパリオリンピックへIOC Says Taiwan Welcome at Beijing Olympics (It's Not True) + Chinese Taipei Controversy Goes Global

A spokesperson for the IOC has stated that Taiwan is welcome at the Beijing Olympics. Unless he was being deliberately misleading, he must be badly informed.

Taiwan is an independent country. If you acknowledge this fact, you are a criminal according to Chinese law and you could be arrested if you enter China. It would be risky for any self-respecting Taiwanese to go to the Beijing Olympics.

Moreover, China's leaders repeatedly threaten to invade Taiwan. This would entail murdering and maiming anyone who stands in their way. How can Taiwanese feel welcome in such a hostile country?

China's government is the reason why Taiwanese athletes are forced to face the discrimination and humiliation of competing under a made-up name, "Chinese Taipei," and can't use their own country's national flag and national anthem during Olympic competition.

Taiwanese athletes shouldn't be forced to endure such horrible treatment. If the IOC wants Taiwan to feel welcome at the 2022 Olympics, then the IOC should move the games to a different country.
