Keep Sex and Relationships Education non-compulsory and maintain the parental right of withdrawal
The Issue
Full petition: "We petition the Government to uphold the right of parents to protect their children from unacceptable sex education by keeping sex and relationships education non-compulsory and maintaining the right of withdrawal."
- Sex and relationships education (SRE) (as part of PSHE) is not now a compulsory subject in state schools and parents can withdraw their children. It should not be made compulsory in the future.
- Much sex education in primary schools is explicit and is an assault on natural child development. At secondary school, sex education facilitates premature, unmarried sexual activity between any combination of sexes.
- Many schools undermine the authority of parents by making contraception and abortion available to children under the age of sexual consent without parental knowledge or consent.
- The government-appointed review group on SRE failed to commission any survey of parental concerns or consult parents about what should be taught and when.
The political parties are coming under increasing pressure to make sex education compulsory at not only the Secondary level of education but now at the Primary level too.
Our petition aims to block this move.
