The Issue
In light of the recent renovations and plans for a new buiding to house the J. H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto, undergraduate architecture students have been displaced from their studio space and deprived of an appropriate work envronment.
Speaking on behalf of fellow BAAS students, it is imperative that we have a space to do studio work in outside of class to complete class work. It is unreasonable for the faculty to expect students to have the space at home to build models and the resources to transport them to school.
In addition, as architects, we are all aware of the importance that studio culture plays in the successful education of architecture students. To deprive students of this environment is to give them inferior education; this is unacceptable for a world renowned institution such as the University of Toronto .
