Renew Geelong's air, spirit and economy with renewable energy

The issue

Our society urgently needs to stop polluting the atmosphere, which means to move from using coal, oil and gas to renewable energy sources such as the wind. So when a lobby group wants to obstruct a great new wind power project with arguments, as heard in a tv-report by ABC, that wind mills should be banned because they are “ugly, horrible things”, “leave a physical footprint”, or “rip the heart out of the community”, we need to speak up. None of the opponents to wind farms mention - and are maybe even totally unaware of - those catastrophic climate change issues which humanity is confronted with.

The proposed wind farm on King Island has a direct effect on the region of Geelong, because that green electricity delivered by those 200 wind turbines are to be directed to our city and region. This makes anyone who lives in Geelong involved.

Sign this petition if you want to help sending a signal to the board of Hydro Tasmania that Geelong residents support wind energy, and that the overwhelming scientific evidence is that they do not pose health threats or noise disturbances. Write a comment to the board as well – to show and to asure them that Geelong has many citizens who hope they will find a way to roll this wind farm project out and provide Greater Geelong with beautiful, green and sustainable megawatts.

It is important that you leave a short note about why you think this is important.
It will be sent to the board in 2014 or 2015, when an initial feasability study on King Island has been completed and the board of Hydro Tasmania will be meeting to make their decision.
