This petition of citizens of the Commonwealth of Australia calls upon the Federal Government to intervene to save the jobs and livelihood of over seventy blind and vision impaired workers employed by Vision Australia Enterprises. We deplore the impending sackings which will hurt the most vulnerable members of the workforce.
We draw attention to Article 27e of The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities which calls on State Parties to “Promote employment opportunities and career advancement for persons with disabilities in the labour market, as well as assistance in finding, obtaining, maintaining and returning to employment.”
We note that many millions of dollars have been offered by governments to other industries in order to save local jobs. We therefore call upon the Australian Government, House of Representatives, to provide the necessary financial assistance to keep Vision Australia Enterprises in operation and save the jobs of blind and vision impaired workers.
