She held the position of Vice-President of the European Parliament from 2014 until 2017, showcasing her extensive experience in European politics. Lunacek, who was born on May 26, 1957, has been an outspoken advocate for women's rights and LGBT+ rights throughout her career. Prior to her stint in European Parliament, she served as a member of the National Council of Austria.
