The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is a U.S. governmental agency within the Department of the Interior. The mission of FWS is to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. The agency is responsible for implementing and enforcing some of U.S.'s most important environmental laws, such as the Endangered Species Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, and the Lacey Act that combat wildlife trafficking. The FWS also manages a system of public lands and waters set aside to conserve America's fish, wildlife, and plants, including the National Wildlife Refuge System.
