Luigi Brugnaro is an Italian entrepreneur and politician. Born in Mirano in 1961, he became a self-made millionaire in the staffing industry before turning to politics. He is known, in particular, for serving as the Mayor of Venice from 2015 to 2021. Under his leadership, efforts were increased to protect Venice from floodwater damage and manage the impact of mass tourism on the city. Despite his sometimes controversial policies and rhetoric, Brugnaro is recognized for his dedication in rehabilitating Venice’s grandeur and preserving its cultural heritage.
