Chicago City Council - Ward 26
District 26, Illinois
Jessica "Jessie" Fuentes is a prominent American politician serving as the alderperson for Chicago's 26th Ward, a position she has held since May 2023 after winning the election with over 54% of the vote. She is notable for being the first woman, the youngest, and the first queer Latina to lead this ward, which encompasses parts of Humboldt Park, Logan Square, Hermosa, West Town, and Belmont Cragin neighborhoods. Fuentes launched her campaign for alderperson in 2023 against incumbent Roberto Maldonado, who later withdrew from the race but endorsed her. Her campaign focused on issues such as affordable housing, public safety through restorative justice programming, and combating gentrification in her community.
