The Governor of Maharashtra is a constitutional post appointed by the President of India and serves as the nominal head of the state. This role, much like that of the British monarchy, holds mainly ceremonial duties within the state, with the real executive power resting with the Chief Minister and the state cabinet. Nevertheless, the Governor also holds certain legislative powers and responsibilities, including signing bills into law, dissolving the legislative assembly, and calling for new elections. Given the significant political and cultural influence of Maharashtra in India, the Governor's post holds great prestige and prominence.
