A District Attorney (DA) serves as a jurisdiction's chief legal representative, typically in a county, where they prosecute criminal cases on behalf of the government. The DA's primary responsibility involves determining whether to bring charges against individuals for alleged crimes, with their actions having significant implications for accused persons and public safety. Besides prosecution, their role may include advising law enforcement agencies during criminal investigations and working on plea bargains, as well as overseeing the work of Assistant District Attorneys, Deputy District Attorneys, or other prosecutors.
