Die Linke

Die Linke, literally translated as "The Left," is a major political party in Germany that emerged in 2007 from the fusion of two distinct political entities: the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) and the Electoral Alternative for Labour and Social Justice (WASG). The party bears a distinct left-wing socio-economic orientation, advocating for social justice, eradication of poverty and unemployment, increased public ownership, and improved provisions for social services. Die Linke is particularly popular in the eastern regions of Germany, where it stands a dominant force, and it has a substantial representation in the German Bundestag.
