Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo is a respected Mexican scientist, politician, and member of the leftist National Regeneration Movement. Born in 1962, she is known for making history as the first woman to be elected as the Mayor of Mexico City, taking the helm in 2018. Prior to her political career, Sheinbaum was recognized as an accomplished environmental engineer and obtained a doctorate degree in Energy Engineering. She brought her expertise to various UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a role that earned her and her fellow panel members a collective Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. Her political reputation, meanwhile, has been built upon addressing social inequality and environmental concerns within Mexico City.
