Central Board of Film Certification

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), often referred to as the Censor Board, is a statutory body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India. It is responsible for regulating the public exhibition of films under the provisions of the Cinematograph Act 1952. The CBFC certifies films into various categories like "U" (unrestricted public exhibition), "A" (restricted to adult audiences), "UA" (unrestricted public exhibition but with a word of caution that parental discretion is required for children below 12 years), "S" (restricted to specialized audiences such as doctors) etc., based on their content. The board's primary objective is to ensure that the portrayal of content in films aligns with the cultural, social, and moral values of the country.
