The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a national public health institute in the United States. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, it is a federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services. Its primary responsibilities are to protect public health and safety, provide credible health information, as well as improve health outcomes through strong partnerships. The CDC monitors and responds to disease outbreaks, implements disease prevention strategies, and maintains national health statistics. It also leads public health efforts targeting various health threats, including infectious diseases, foodborne pathogens, environmental health hazards, occupational safety and health, health promotion, prevention of chronic diseases, and injury prevention.
