The Cámara de Diputados y Senadores, otherwise known as the bicameral Congress of Chile, is the legislative branch of the Chilean government. Divided into two sections, it consists of the Senate or Senado (upper house) and the Chamber of Deputies or Cámara de Diputados (lower house). Together, they propose, discuss, and pass the country's laws. In this democratic system, Deputies are elected for four-year mandates, while Senators hold their positions for eight years. The Cámara de Diputados y Senadores upholds the principles of representation, checks and balances, and segregation of powers to ensure good governance.
