The Issue
Regional New South Wales is about to lose its voice. WIN Network has announced a devastating round of cuts that will rip the heart out of NBN News, proposing to fire at least 19 local journalists, camera operators, and media staff across our communities.
This is the final blow in a systematic gutting of our local news. WIN Network has already quietly axed all weekend NBN bulletins and slashed our trusted weekday bulletin from a full hour down to a meager 30 minutes. Now, they are getting rid of the very people who investigate our local stories, cover our community sports, and keep us safe.

The Impact on Our Communities
These corporate cuts hit the hardest right where local accountability matters most:
•Newcastle Bureau Devastated: The regional flagship is losing over half its newsroom. Journalists are being cut from 10 down to just 4. Camera operators are being slashed from 7 down to 3. Local sports presenters are being axed entirely.
•Regional Voice Silenced: Media jobs and local coverage are being stripped away from bureaus across the Central Coast, Coffs Harbour, Lismore, and Tamworth.

When you replace local, boots-on-the-ground journalists with generic automated feeds or metropolitan news from Sydney and Brisbane, our communities lose. We lose coverage of local council decisions, community bushfire and flood emergencies, and regional sporting achievements. Regional Australians pay the same taxes and bills as city residents—we deserve the same quality of news.

Our Demands
With a final corporate decision looming around 17 June 2026, we must act immediately. We are calling on Andrew Lancaster (CEO of WIN Network) and Bruce Gordon (Owner of WIN Corporation) to:
1. Halt all planned June 2026 redundancies and protect the jobs of our local NBN News journalists and camera crews.
2. Reinstate the full 1-hour weekday local news bulletin to give regional stories the airtime they deserve.
3. Commit to long-term funding for regional bureaus, ensuring that Newcastle, the Central Coast, and northern NSW are never left without local emergency and community coverage.

Yours Thankfully the regional viewers of NBN News
