Reopen the Quambatook Licensed Post Office
The issue
Restoring Essential Services for Our Community
We, the undersigned residents of Quambatook and surrounding districts, respectfully call on Australia Post to urgently restore full services at the Quambatook Licensed Post Office (LPO).
The closure of our local post office has left our community without convenient access to essential postal, banking, and parcel services. For many residents, particularly older people, those with disabilities, and those without reliable transport, the loss of these services has created significant hardship and reduced their ability to participate fully in community life.
Accessible public services are vital to the wellbeing, resilience, and sustainability of rural communities. Our post office is more than a place to send mail—it is a trusted local service that enables people to pay bills, access banking services, collect parcels, and stay connected.
The closure has also impacted local businesses, farmers, and community organisations, forcing them to travel elsewhere for routine transactions and increasing both costs and lost time. This places additional pressure on businesses already operating in a challenging rural environment.
With the nearest Australia Post outlet located in Kerang, an 85-kilometre round trip away, many residents now face considerable inconvenience and expense simply to access services that were previously available within their own community. For some, this journey is difficult or impossible.
Over recent years, Quambatook has experienced the loss of several key services and facilities. The closure of the Licensed Post Office represents another significant blow to the social and economic fabric of our town. Without local access to essential services, rural communities become increasingly vulnerable to population decline, social isolation, and reduced economic activity.
We urge Australia Post to recognise the critical role the Quambatook Licensed Post Office plays in supporting our residents, businesses, and community organisations, and to work towards restoring full services as a matter of priority.
By signing this petition, we demonstrate our strong community support for the reopening of the Quambatook Licensed Post Office and our commitment to ensuring Quambatook remains a connected, vibrant, and sustainable rural community.
We respectfully call on Australia Post to reopen the Quambatook Licensed Post Office and restore full postal and banking services to our community.
