Mandate Precise Language in Ballot Descriptions and Independent Review of Ballot Wording
The Issue
As a concerned Ohioan, I have regularly witnessed inaccurate, misleading, or outright wrong ballot language.
Many constituents, misled by this grossly deceptive wording, have voted against their own best interests, the best interests of other Ohioans, and against the best interests of their families without understanding outcomes based on the passing, or failure of passing of a ballot initiative.
We must ensure that the language used in our ballots is an exact reflection of proposed amendments, without any potential misinterpretation or bias.
To solve this, we demand a requirement for ballot language to come directly from the verbiage of the proposed amendments, and for any unrepresentative or politically-leaning language to be completely disallowed. Additionally, we press for the establishment of an independent review board of ballot language reviewers, with the stipulation that they must not hold any political office and no single political party should hold a majority on this board.
Preventing the manipulation of the democratic process requires hard and fast legislation against murky ballot language and misleading descriptions. Our democracy should never be undermined by such travesties of miscommunication. In the spirit of transparent and accountable governance, let's put an end to misleading language in ballots and make sure our legislation is representative of the people's true will. I urge you to take swift and decisive action on this pressing matter. Please, sign the petition today.
You may ask,
"If you could write the ballots, how would you do so?"
Pretty simply actually. There's this amazingly complex and awesome algorithm that was introduced in computing at Xerox, way back in 1970. It's called copy & paste.
While writing ballot language to be easy to read on the ballot is an important goal, it allows too much freedom to make the language lean towards a goal of the party writing it, all ballot language must be neutral, period.
From a personal perspective, I am fairly certain that I have family members who have regularly voted against their own best interest, and the interest of their own families due to a lack of knowledge of issues being voted upon. Not because they aren't interested, but because the ballot language was severely misleading, and this has likely happened more than one time.
I have written a letter which you may use to contact your representative:

Hello [REPRESENTATIVE],
My name is [YOURNAME], and I live within your district.
Something has constantly and regularly stuck out to me in recent years on just about every chance I've had the privilege to vote on a state-wide issue. Ballot wording and/or verbiage.
Regularly I believe the peoples of the State of Ohio may vote against their own best interestts due to largely misleading ballot language. Many times ballot language may include negative, or positive connotations leading the voter into a vote that may not necessarily be what they would truly want.
There have been many recent ballot initiatives which can be referenced that adhere to this outline. While some have been passed for the betterment of the state of Ohio, other items that probably should have been passed have not due to that misleading language.
This, I believe, has regularly created a situation in which the actual will of the peoples of Ohio are not properly or accurately represented, and have not been for some time, as many constituents may not take the time, as I did, to read amendment language, and merely read what is on the ballot.
As such, I have created this petition on Change.org: https://www.change.org/InformedVoteOhio and I would absolutely love your support so that we can ensure the future of voting in our state is truly fair, and transparent.
Thank you for your time.
A concerned citizen.
