The Issue

The cost of living has become an unbearable burden for many of us, struggling to merely make ends meet. Corporate greed is preventing us from maintaining a decent standard of living, with each paycheck getting consumed by growing bills. Among our significant concerns is the bill from Con Edison, steadily inflating since 2022. Since then, we have experienced an unbearable 34.1% cumulative increase in the charge rate for our electricity and gas.

Not only do we pay for the energy and gas consumed, but we are also burdened by a separate delivery charge. Outrageously, this delivery charge often doubles the cost of our actual energy consumption. Now, Con Edison is proposing yet another blow to our personal finances, with a staggering 24% increase envisaged to commence from January 2026. If successful, this will total an increase of about 59% with New York’s residents seeing an average of $500 a month in energy costs EACH month.

These practices are squeezing households to the edge of their financial capabilities, making it borderline impossible to afford basic necessities such as food and housing. As a community, we reject this corporate greed. We believe it's high time to rally against these practices, which only propel us further into financial trouble.

It is crucial that we come together to demand that state regulators reject Con Edison's proposed rate increase and urge them to scrutinize the fairness and legality of their current billing practices. By standing together, we can make a difference in our cost of living and secure a more sustainable future for everyone. Stand with us, sign the petition.
