UPDATE 24th November 

GOOD NEWS After attending the North Sydney Council meeting, the Councillors did vote yes to explore grant funding from the NSW State Government to change the current harsh cool white LED street lights to a warmer white LED. .

This means I will be focusing on and contacting the NSW state Government to provide a grant to the North Sydney Council to change the street lights to a nicer and healthier warm white.

As you may have noticed over the last 12 months or so the councils in Sydney area  have been changing the street lights from mercury vapour warm white to a very bright LED cool white.

When I personally spoke to my local council North Sydney Council, they claimed that these new very bright LED cool white lights were safer and better for your health without any evidence.

The AMA ( American medical Association) have been trying ( and been successful) to get the councils in the U.S to change to warm white LED street lighting for the below reasons.

1. They are are less disruptive to human sleep patterns which is crucial for health of the locals.

2. They create less glare which is safer for driving round at night.

3. Better for nocturnal wildlife as they are less impact on the environment.

4. They create a more pleasing ambiance at night.

5. The warmer white create a less glow to the light pollution.

So far, several councils around the world have been convinced by the AMA and locals to change to a warm white LED street lights ( for the above reasons) and they include:

Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Washington DC, Phoenix, Tucson, San Francisco, San Diego, Columbus, Montreal

Now that the North Sydney Council have voted to apply for a grant from the NSW State government, we the ratepayers need to send a message to the NSW state government to provide a grant to the council to change the street lights to warm white.

So please support this cause by signing the petition to send a message to the councils and State Government that we the people who pay for these things have a right to have a choice in the manner including using warm white street lighting.
